Frozen Reflection Lakes Mt Rainier

Planned out a camping trip earlier in the year for the end of July thinking that we’d get some good hiking in up at Mt Rainier. Thanks to the massive snowfall we’ve had this season, much of the upper elevations have not melted out yet. Still I wanted to try and photograph reflection lakes much like I did last year at sunrise. Chad was my willing partner this time to get up at 4:30am and make the short drive over from the camp site. Considering it was mostly snow around the lake, we didn’t see nearly the number of photographers as Nick and I did last year. In fact, due to the cold night prior, the lake had actually frozen back over. We’d seen it the day before fully melted. A few people got a good idea to throw some rocks out to break up the ice a little bit, and these images were born. Another person decided to break the ice with his entire body as he slid down the snowbank and into the lake. Luckily it was shallow where he went in and was ok.

Witches House Portland, OR

Photo taken of what i’ve heard called the “witches house” or the “witches castle” on the Macleay Trail in Portland, OR. Went for a hike, took my camera along, and ended up with perfect timing of the sun setting behind it.

Cape Kiwanda Sunrise Pacific City Oregon

I think I’m most proud of this shot from my trip with Ray a few weeks back. A lot of scrambling, slipping, and a 4am wakeup call after staying up late the night before. It was all worth it though.

Cape Kiwanda Sunset #1

Here is the first photo from a series of shots taken in Pacific City, OR during two days of shooting with my buddy Ray. Had to dodge the rain drops, and we only saw a sliver of sunlight during a few brief moments. This was one of them.

5D Mark 2 Test Shots

After a lot of contemplating and wrestling back and forth with the idea, I finally purchased a Canon 5D Mark 2 with my awesome wife’s encouragement. She of course, had to become the subject of some of the first shots taken with it. Here are a few images of my lovely wife taken with the new camera. I already put them up on facebook, but it pixelates them pretty badly. A few more can be seen on my flickr site.
