Snowboarding

My winter love has become snowboarding. I started last year and went up about 10 times in the spring. This year I have a season pass. Aside from the sport, it gives me a lot of opportunities to watch Mt Hood change as more snow arrives. It’s a different contrast between the seasons, and with all the hiking we do, we are fortunate to see them all.

Here are a couple early season pics from my snowboarding trips.

Civil War 2006

Yesterday we had 8 friends and family that attended the Civil War in Corvallis….and what a great game it was!!!! Another great finish that we got to see this year. The USC game is the other one. We were up by a bit at halftime and the *ucks came back to go up by 1 with 3 minutes left. Matt Moore marched the team down the field and MVP Alexis Serna kicked his 3rd field goal to put us up by 2. The *ucks returned a kick pretty far, and ended up attempting a field goal with 20 seconds left and had it blocked!! 3 missed field goals and a missed PAT for Oregon….I LOVE IT!!!!

It was a great day to be a beaver. We finish 3rd in the Pac 10!!!! A few weeks back most of Beaver Nation would have never imagined that. Well the Ducks can enjoy their mediocrity after puffing their team up to “elite” status earlier in the year.

GO BEAVS!

A Game For the Ages

Wow. What a Game. One of the most exciting college games I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe Ever. I thought the SC/Notre Dame game was good, and this was right up there. Congratulations to the Texas Longhorns for winning the National Championship. I admit…I didn’t think you were going to win, nor was a I rooting for you (had a box of Krispy Kremes on the line) but I found myself hoping Vince would run it in at the end of the game. I wanted SC to win for the Pac-10, but hey, Texas, you deserved it. And man, Vince Young…what a stud. That was one of the best performances I’ve seen by a college quarterback in a game…ever. What a great way to cap the end of one of my two favorite sports.

I have to say, Pete Carrol and Mack Brown had a lot of class. Matt Leinert…not so much. He said something like “I still think we are the better team.” Come on dude…if the kicker makes his extra point and the field goal that he missed, you lose by 6 or 7. You have a Heisman and 2 National Championships…at least give credit where credit is due.

Sorry cousins (the aggie and red raider)…but that was a great game, and I gotta say…Congrats Horns…You deserved it.

Thanks to both teams for such a great game on my Birthday.

Boomer Sooner

Thanks and congrats to the Oklahoma Sooners for beating the overrated Ducks. I’m glad we can finally put a rest to the “We should have been in the Fiesta Bowl” whining from Ducks fans. You showed tonight what everyone agreed with…you didn’t deserve it. Maybe the team should have worried a little less about how they were going to accessorize their uniforms and a little more about the game.

All is right in the world today. Especially since the Oregon basketball team is listed in the Bottom 10 on ESPN.

Hopefully we can pull off the win on Saturday down in Eugene.

Go Beavs!

Mike Hass and Alexis Serna

Just had to give a quick shout out and congratulations to my 2 boys from Oregon State for winning the Player of the Year awards at their respective positions.

Mike Hass, 2005 Biletnikoff Awardwinner, best receiver in college football.

Alexis Serna, 2005 Lou Graza Award winner.

Congrats to the Oregon State Beavers with 2 Award winners…best part? Beavers 2, Ducks 0.
