It’s becoming more and more noticeable which direction this country is headed. Everywhere you look, most things you hear, people are taking the “Christmas” out of this time of year. I heard a commercial on TV singing..”We wish you a HAPPY HOLIDAYS, we wish you a HAPPY HOLIDAYS”. Seriously..they changed the words of the song everyone has sung for years and years to be more “PC”. Quite frankly I’m tired of it.
In Pinoeer Square, aka Portlands living room, they have a giant “holiday tree” lighted up. Christian or not, it’s been called a Christmas tree for long before I was born. It really really bugs me that because some people complain, they change the name. Many retailers have done the same in their stores, selling holiday trees, and keeping the Salvation Army from ringing their “Christmas Bells”. I applaud the stores which have not caved and uphold the time honored tradition of Christmas.
Lars Larson, a radio personality here in Portland, was actually going to erect a giant cross in Pioneer Square. Read about it here. I think it was an awesome idea, thwarted by too many people threatening to destroy it. Any other race/creed, etc that would be considered a hate crime, but all too often, it’s ok because we’re “just Christians”.
Way to Go McDonalds in Raleigh, NC for putting up a sign that says “Merry Christmas, Jesus is the Reason for the Season”. That brings a smile to my face.
Is there a point to my ranting? Justified, yes, but hey the bible says we’ll have trials, tribulations and be persecuted for our beliefs, just as Christ Himself endured. I suppose this is just another way of that happening. I just wish there were more tolerance from people in this world. I’m offended by quite a few things I have to deal with on an everyday basis, but I am able to tolerate it…why can’t others?
I’ve been making it a point to tell people “Merry Christmas” when given the opportunity.
Lets not let people forget the real reason for the season.
Thank you God for sending your Son for all of us, as wicked as we are. You loved us even though we were, and are, sinners and unworthy.
I pray you all have a very Merry Christmas
