Hotel Eridan, Moscow 08/03/05 10:00 am

доброе утро = Good Morning (Dobre Ootrah)

Didn’t sleep real well last night. Slept in spurts. Woke up around 6:30, which I guess is 7:30pm Portland time. Got a great glimpse of part of the city from the hotel room this morning. Had some frosted flakes with milk and instant coffee. George did a mini devotion and we all talked a little about our ambitions/hopes etc for the trip. Prayed, sang a couple worship songs, then Amanda Kyle and I went for a walk around the block. There’s a really cool restaurant called Kamalot that we got some pictures of. Walking around, there are many giant apartment complexes that I would say look like what I imagine the “projects” in New York or LA to look like. Buildings very worn, clothes drying off of the balcony, etc.

Took a walk through the park across the way. Beer bottles, graffiti, everywhere(much like parts of portland) people fishing out of a nasty pond. Saw a few people as we walked and tried to make a point to smile. Most just stared, unmoved, but one lady smiled as Kyle took a picture of her dog. Back to the hotel after taking many pictures and the rest of the group was walking out. We found a nice Russian lady who taught us how to say Good Morning in russian (доброе утро aka Dobre Ootrah). Then all the others walked around picking up Kopecks off the ground. We have about an hour before Vladamir comes to get us. Can’t wait to see the camp…
